What this is
Troll Sports Lab turns game results into a rating for every team, then turns those ratings into win odds, spreads, projected scores and season projections. Right now that means Michigan high school basketball, boys and girls.
The point of the site is to be honest about what a model can and cannot do. The report card tracks how often our picks are right, including the misses, and How it works explains the math in plain language and then in full detail.
Why “Troll”?
It is a Michigan joke. People who live below the Mackinac Bridge, in the Lower Peninsula, are called trolls. Most of Michigan’s teams live there too, so the name fits.
Yoopers, the people of the Upper Peninsula, are welcome here. Their teams get the same ratings and the same odds as everyone else’s. The badge shows the Mighty Mac and a map of the Lower Peninsula.
Meet Mac
Mac is our troll. He wears glasses and a headband, and he loves a good spreadsheet. You will find him pointing out the best games of the week, spotting upsets, and running the game simulator.
Fair play
- Entertainment only. This site is not for wagering, and nothing on it is betting advice.
- Independent. It is not run by the MHSAA or by any school. School names and logos belong to their schools and appear only to identify teams.
- Honest about accuracy. Early-season picks are less accurate, and the site says so. The report card shows the numbers.
- Private by design. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking. The only thing stored is your light or dark choice, in your own browser.
